Teams seeded 8 & 9 complete in a play-in series the determine the final spot in the playoff bracket.
Teams seeded 4 & 5 complete in a play-in series for entry into the upper-tier playoff and lower-tier playoff.
The play-in series are a best-of-two, lower seed must win twice, higher seed only needs to win once.
The upper-tier playoff features the top three seeds, plus the winner of the 4v5 play-in series.
The lower-tier playoff features the loser of the 4v5 play-in series, the #6 and #7 seeds, plus the winner of the 8v9 play-in series.
Each playoff matchup after the play-in series is a best-of-three. The higher seed gets the choice of home or away in Game 1 and Game 3, while the lower seed gets the choice in Game 2.
